Dragonfly, December 2021 - Watercolour on xuan paper

My good friend Shannon's birthday would have been this weekend. She was very fond of dragonflies and I thought of her while painting this, on my first day working with Chinese watercolour technique and xuan paper.

She was an inspiration to everyone she spent time with and the way she lived her life can be distilled into a simple mantra that I remind myself of daily.

"Be yourself. Have fun. Do your best."

Simple but not easy. These are words that everyone would do well to be honest about with themselves.
